Bacon as superfood?!

In recent years, breakfast, in which lightly scratched eggs are served with well-burnt, crispy bacon, began to be perceived as a meal with at least innocuous and even health-promoting properties. What's more, the number of propagators of such assumptions has recently started to grow, and on Instagram, the #fit has not been marked with oatmeal with fruit, but with bacon slices.

No. Such fashion is highly harmful, and the bacon itself has never been and will not be a healthy product. On this I could end the article, but you should explain - after all, many dieters are die-hard enthusiasts of such meals and they appear on the menu of not one celebrity.

To the point.

Researchers from the World Health Organization (WHO) evaluated more than 800 epidemiological studies that looked at the relationship between cancer and red meat or meat products in many countries, from several continents. It has been shown that every 100 grams of red meat per day increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 17%, and the supply of 50 grams of processed meat per day increases this risk by as much as 18%. Processed meat has been classified as carcinogenic to humans, hence the WHO warns against consumption, among others fried bacon. In addition, researchers from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the European Society for Atherosclerosis (EAS) for the treatment of lipid disorders in 2016 have published the ESC / EAS Guidelines for the treatment of lipid disorders in 2016, where they clearly indicatethat one of the lifestyle interventions to reduce TC and LDL-C is to reduce saturated fat intake, the title bacon contains quite a bit. WHO also recommends reducing saturated fat intake for preventive purposes for cardiovascular diseases. Nutrition standards of the Polish Institute of Food and Nutrition, recommendations refer to such a low intake of saturated fatty acids, as it is only possible to achieve in diet. The scientific positions of other organizations and institutes dealing with health are also similar. On top of this, a change of 5% in the energy value of the saturated fatty acids diet to polyunsaturated fatty acids, monounsaturated acids or unprocessed carbohydrates reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease by 25%, 15% and 9% respectively.

I do not know, but its adherence to it is highly unreasonable and the provision of such meals by nutritionists seems to be particularly harmful. Bacon, in addition to saturated fatty acids, often contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAA), which have no pro-health properties, but on the contrary - they show carcinogenic properties 6.7. Their content results from smoke, which very often have slices of bacon to buy in almost every grocery store. What's more, it lands on the plate not once crunchy and burnt. Quite rarely it undergoes delicate thermal treatment, and more often very aggressive. As a result of this treatment, oxidized cholesterol is formed, which is also characterized by high harmfulness 8.

Many accuse the argument that a year ago scrambled eggs with bacon were promoted as healthy and research said otherwise ... No. bacon was never healthy and research did not say otherwise. It is necessary to distinguish a nutritionist based on facts from dietetics in the pop version, based on common claims, on the basis of which, unfortunately, popularized fashions are based.

For some bacon with eggs, it has become such a habit that they can not imagine eating something else for breakfast. If the weaning of the scrambled eggs is indeed a problem, it will be a better idea to add a large portion of vegetables, eliminating the processed meat and limiting its consumption to several times a week. Scientists clearly indicate that when preparing scrambled eggs, do not add bacon to it, because this treatment seems to be particularly harmful. A great idea is porridge with fruit and nuts, sandwiches made of whole-grain bread baked with avocado, or a paste from legumes. The recipe is really a lot and all you need is a bit of creativity.

Regular consumption of bacon, contrary to popular opinion, is highly unreasonable, and the promotion of such recommendations by nutritionists and fit celebrities seems to be equally harmful.
