DMHA – a successor to DMAA?!

The world of supplements does not tolerate emptiness. At a time when one substance is blocked by sanitary regulations, another twin immediately appears. This is also the case for prohormones, gab modulators, or substances found in pre-workout supplements.

    Pre workout boosters with DMAA

Just today we will be talking about the latter group of supplements, specifically the ingredients of the pre-workout products.

Famous DMAA (geranium, geranamine, ginseng extract, 1,3 dimethylamylamine or methylhexanamine) is a neurotransmitter that has a thermogenic action. As you know, the substance is banned in many countries.

DMHA (2-Aminoisoheptane) comes in handy for those who like sharp, hard workouts.

The history of 2-aminoisoheptane is obvious, it was invented as a means for asthmatics acting diastolic bronchodilator.

The differences between DMHA and DMAA in terms of chemical structure are that DMHA contains an additional carbon atom, and methyl groups of DMHA compound are differently arranged. But as you can see they are very similar to each other - that's why their actions are very similar to each other (yet DMAA is the stronger stimulant). The main area which defines stimuli actions is exposed amine group near the end of the carbon chain. The more alkyl groups near the amine group - the stronger and more efficient the stimulant is.

    What is DMHA?

DMHA or dimethylhexylamine is a stimulant compound that has other names such as 2-aminoisoheptane or octodrine. As for 2-aminoisoheptane, it has two chemical forms:

    • 2-amino-6-methylheptane
    • 2-amino-5-methylheptane

In the supplements there is a form with "6". It is widely used for simple reasons, holds research and costs less. It is believed that DMHA may be a suitable alternative to other stimulants such as BMPEA (acacia rigidula) citrates and AMP for DMAA.

DMHA as 2-amino-6-methylheptane seems to be fully synthetic. Previously it was thought that it naturally came from a plant called Aconitum Kusnezoffii, which is in fact very toxic and the poison contained in the plant was often used for hunting. It would therefore be extremely costly to clean, receive and process a natural compound.

However, if you look at the 2-amino-5-methylheptane version, it is a naturally occurring substance in the Juglans Regia tree bark. However, as we have already mentioned, it is too unprofitable to use this version of the compound as a stimulant.

    How does DMHA work like?

When we consider DMHA actions we can make many analogies to amphetamine actions. We know that it sounds bad, but DMHA acts similary at our central nervous system like other psychoactive amines.

DMHA main mechanims of action is to show catecholamine activity in reward circuitry, stimulating it in results. Stimulation of reward circuitry leads to increased level of dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin in your nervous system. That is the direct reason of happiness and psychomotoric excitation, after taking DMHA.

Increased energy after DMHA is the merit of DMHA affinity to TAAR1 reception. That affinity, increases cAMP production by stimulating adenylyl cyclase.

What's interesting, DMHA could possibly improve neuronal development and survivability, due to inducing cocaine and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) gene actions, which contributes to such effects.

    Benefits of DMHA

They are very similar to DMAA, but the total dosage used is higher.

DMHA acts as a bronchodilator, increasing our oxygen capacity, and it also has shrinking activity (narrowing the blood vessels, causing an increase in the rate of oxygen flow), does not cause "stupefying" and sharpens the senses which could not always be felt at the dmaa. It has also been shown to increase dopamine and noradrenaline concentrations.

Thanks to DMHA people feel the increased pain threshold (the same pain will be less noticeable after taking the substance). Essentially the substance reduces fatigue and allows for a significant increase in intensity of exercise. Increases concentration and suppresses appetite.

DMHA can cause heart rate rise, blood pressure rise and shortness of breath.

    Dosage of DMHA

An effective and safe dose of DMHA is 1mg/kg of body weight.

    When to take DMHA?

It is recommended to apply 30-60 minutes before workout, 2-3 hours after the meal. DMHA can also be supplemented before intensive mental work. If you are prone to stimuli, remember to start from lower dose of DMHA. It is also unrecommended to take DMHA at the evening, because of its stimulatory properties. It can lower quality of your sleep if you take it too late.

Why can't you sleep after taking DMHA?

DMHA is highly potent stimulant of reward circuitry, highly increasing dopamine and norepinephrine activity, in result making you feel very excited. In more pratical way - your brain feel so good and happy, that it cannot recognize that you are in bed trying to sleep. Rather than it think, that you are in the middle of intensive party, and don't want to let you miss fun!

Can DMHA false your drug test?

Unfortunately, yes it can and you have to take it seriously in account if you are professional athlete or your job requires you to be clean off any kind of drugs. Taking DMHA (just as DMAA and AMP Citrate) can give same results in drug tests, as taking amphetamine-like substances. You have to be aware of that before taking DMHA - absolutely.

    Why is DMHA banned?

Malignant people are saying that DMHA is banned because it works. Reality is rather more... overprotective. Here we have to focus on DMAA more.

At the time of dietary supplements market robust, many people searched for new substances, which people would like to take and buy. And first place to look after such substances was... drug list  - those in pharmacies, as well as those on the way to the shady party.

One of such insporations was... Amphetamine. It would be great to allow people to take something to feel way better, and let them make more intensive training due to proper mood, without any legal issues right? And it was so easy in those carefree times. You only find which part of such drug "works" (act as agonist part of drug to be biochemically exact), and look for some other substances, which have such part. That's how DMAA was found... kind of.

Then DMAA was banned by many countries, which highly decreased it's availability. As the capitalists say - the market doesn't like emptiness, so similar thought process was done. And that's how DMHA was found.

Now DMAA'ish substances are interesting from legal perspective, because legal organs regards them as "they are amphetamine... but not really". That is why we have a kind of Schrödinger legality - some of them consider them just as amphetamine and there they are illegal. Some others consider them as something different than amphetamine... Simple right?

Coming back to main question - DMHA is banned problably due to its resemblance to amphetamine. Some legal organs consider DMHA is caregories of amphetamine and that is why they ban DMHA.

DMAA vs DMHA - which one to choose?

DMAA is delicately stronger. 70 mg of DMAA acts similary as 200 mg of DMHA. At the same time it's harder to get high quality supplements containing DMAA . That is why supplements containing DMAA are more expensive, than those with DMHA.

But from practical perspective - there are no differencies in terms of stimuli properties between those two substances. So, both DMHA and DMAA will be great addition to your supplements.

    What to combine DMHA with?

    DMHA with adderall

Adderall is substance, which related controversies can be compared to those related to DMAA/DMHA . Nontheless, combining those two, can lead to adrenal fatigue and can be really uncomfortable for common, everyday existence. Adrenal fatigue can lead to stimuli resistance, dysregulated circadian rhythm, and depression symptoms.

So - if you want to achieve the highest possibe stimulation of your nervous system - you could try that combination. But due to safety of your adrenal system - we discourage that.

    DMHA with alcohol

Don't. We know that DMHA with alcohol seems like a pretty common party set, but your neurotransmitters will receive hella ride with such different substances. DMHA is euphoriant type of substances, when alcohol is depressant (sad, but true). Those are two opposing types of substances, so your brain will not know what to do with your nervous system, which results can be unexpected, and surely unpleasant.

    DMHA with caffeine

It's really hard to not to find such combination in dietary supplements. And such is logical, because stimulants work synergistic with itself. So DMHA boosts caffeine actions, and caffeine boosts DMHA actions. Simply, effective and cheap combination, which we highly recommend. Remember to start from lower dose of each substances, to check your tolerance to stimuli.

    Best supplement containing DMHA

We always want to find the best resolution to our issues and inquries. At the dietary supplements market the quality of supplements is crucial, because theoretically there can be anything there, and producent can cash-in on placebo effects of taking its products, especially in the case of supplements containing substances, which legal status is not clarified completely around the World and is highly demanded by consuments. Such a substance is DMHA at the moment.
Fortunately, we as MZ Store want to fight with low-quality products, and our recommendations can only by given to products not only checked by us, but also by our customers. And such a supplement, which gained renown among our team, and our customers is Blitzkrieg from Apollo Hegemony.
